2023/2024 Programs

2023- 2024 Learn to Skate Program Information

Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate is for children ages 3+. Whether your preschooler is getting on the ice for the first time or your child is an experienced skater looking for a competitive edge, there will be a program to help you succeed. Beginners of all disciplines are encouraged through advanced instruction that will focus on hockey as opposed to figure skating.  We offer 7-week sessions throughout the season, and have need-based scholarships available. A limited number of loaner skates and helmets are also available on a first come, first serve basis.

LTS Cost: $140
LTS Required Equipment: Hockey helmet and gloves required. No sticks.

Learn to Play

Learn to Play is a natural progression from Learn to Skate for first time hockey players ages 4 and 5. Participants must have completed at least one season of Learn to Skate, or have prior skating experience and ability. For 5 year olds with no skating experience, we will work with your child.  We will have them start in Learn to Skate and potentially move up to Learn to Play during the season if skating ability allows. The cost of Learn to Play will be prorated for those in this situation. Learn to Play is built upon the USA Hockey American Development Model. ADM practices result in significantly more repetitions and puck touches than traditional practices deliver. LTP will focus on the introduction of sticks, pucks, and beginner hockey skills and drills.

LTP Cost: $160
LTP Required Equipment: Children must know how to skate for Learn to Play. Full gear required.

6U/8U Flex

6U is the next step for 6 year olds who have participated in a season of Learn to Play, or if a first time hockey player, have skating experience. 5 year old’s who have completed a season of Learn to Play are also eligible. 6U is built upon the USA Hockey American Development Model. ADM is a 'station' based format designed for larger groups of players on the ice. ADM practices result in significantly more repetitions and puck touches than traditional practices deliver. More advanced skills are introduced such as forward/backward skating, stick handling, shooting, and ice awareness. Small area games are an integral part of ADM.

8U

8U is the next level of play for 7 & 8 year olds who have participated in a season of 6U/8UFlex or something comparable. We will work with first time hockey players to ensure that they can get to this level and feel comfortable and confident on the ice with their peers. 8U is based on the USA Hockey American Development Model with practices focused on proper skill development and repetition of the fundamentals of hockey.  At this level, USA Hockey allows for cross-ice games only. The 8U program practices 2x per week and practices are run by the professional staff of Atlantic Coast Hockey. 8U's will typically play 1-2 games per weekend in addition to regular practices. All 8U teams will be coed but we may plan a few occasional all-girl events/games. Tuition fees include the expense of 1 tournament fee. Any additional tournaments attended by teams are an additional expense.

Every team will wear the same jersey and socks.  The $90 cost of uniforms is in addition to the program fee, but the game jerseys can be reused each year.
